Can Power Service diesel additives be added to the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank?

No, Power Service manufactures diesel fuel additives and they should only be added to the fuel. Power Service does not manufacture DEF. Do not add any Power Service diesel fuel additive to the diesel exhaust fluid tank.

When is the best time to add Power Service diesel additives to my fuel?

The best time to add Power Service diesel additives is while you are filling up with fuel to ensure the quickest mixture of the additive to the fuel. However, the recirculation of fuel back to the engine means proper mixture will occur regardless of the time the product is added.

What is the difference between Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost and Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost?

Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost (in the white bottle) is a winterizer/antigel for use when temperatures drop below 0°C. for winter operability. Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost (in the silver bottle) is an injector cleaner and performance improver for use when temperatures are above 0°C. Use our seasonal tip to help remember which product to use: “White for winter, silver for summer.”

Can I use Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost and Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost at the same time?

Yes, we have many customers that do not want to lose the performance improvements provided by Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost when the weather gets cold. The products are compatible and can be used together. Each product should be added to the fuel based on the instructions on the container. Treating with less product than stated in the instructions could result in less than acceptable performance.

Will it hurt my engine to use Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost year-round, even though it contains an antigel for winter operability?

No, it will not hurt your engine to use Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost (in the white bottle) year-round. However, for maximum performance we recommend using Diesel Kleen +Cetane Boost (in the silver bottle) when temperatures are above 30°F. (Use our seasonal tip to remember: white for winter and silver for summer.)

Are Power Service diesel additives effective in biodiesel for winter operability?

Yes, Diesel Fuel Supplement +Cetane Boost effectively treats biodiesel blends and the directions can be found on the container label. Keep in mind that biodiesel can have winter operability problems at temperatures higher than standard petroleum diesel. Refer to your owner’s manual for the biodiesel specifications recommended for your vehicle.

Does biodiesel contain higher amounts of water than regular diesel fuel?

Biodiesel can contain up to 10 times more water than standard petroleum diesel fuel. This excess water can end up in your fuel tank and result in numerous problems, including accelerated fuel-filter plugging, microbial contamination and icing problems in winter. Power Service recommends treating with Clear-Diesel Fuel & Tank Cleaner at least quarterly, or as needed, to remove water. Clear-Diesel also disperses contaminants and stabilizes fuel during long-term storage.

What is Slickdiesel Lubricator?

Slickdiesel Lubricator is a proprietary Power Service diesel fuel lubricity additive that is added to many of our products to increase the lubrication properties of diesel fuel. This increase in lubricity will increase the life of fuel pumps and injectors. The fuel pump manufacturers (Bosch, Delphi, Denso, Siemens and Stanadyne) consider fuel lubricity to be the most crucial property of diesel fuel as it relates to reduction of pump and injector wear. The Engine Manufacturer Association (EMA) has stated that,“Shortened life of engine components such as fuel injection pumps and unit injectors usually can be ascribed to a lack of fuel lubricity and hence is a concern to engine manufacturers.” Slickdiesel Lubricator meets the new ASTM HFRR 520 Lubricity Specifications for the United States and the more stringent European Specification of 460 in most fuels.

What is +Cetane Boost?

Cetane is a powerful energy compound that improves the ignition quality of fuel. There is a direct relationship between a diesel fuel’s cetane number and its ignition point. The lower the cetane number, the longer the ignition delay. Fuels with high cetane numbers burn more quickly and more completely, resulting in smoother and quieter running engines, quicker engine starts, more power and improved fuel economy. In fact, The Engine Manufacturers Association (EMA) states, “Fuels with low cetane numbers will cause hard starting, rough operation, noise and exhaust smoke. Generally, diesel engines will operate better on fuels with cetane numbers above 50 compared to fuels with cetane numbers of the national average of 46.”
